Lindsay recently experienced a transformative hypnotherapy session with me to address her social drinking habit. Lindsay wanted to be sober but had fallen into a routine of drinking wine every evening. She had been sober for six months before but found herself back in the habit.
As a self-proclaimed fitness enthusiast, Lindsay knew alcohol was poison for her body. Yet, the pattern of pouring herself a glass of wine while cooking dinner around 4 PM or unwinding on the couch after dinner had become an ingrained routine. Despite waking up with the resolve to stop, by late afternoon, the habit would creep in and Lindsay would pour herself a glass.
Lindsay didn’t need alcohol when socializing or going out. It was at home, in moments of relaxation, that the habit took hold. She enjoyed the ritual of holding a glass, but deep down, she wanted to be healthy, feel better about herself, and have more energy.
Getting to the Root Cause
In our hypnotherapy session, we accessed Lindsay’s subconscious mind—the part of the mind that holds all memories, emotions, and experiences. By accessing this deeper level of awareness, we aimed to uncover the root, the cause, and the reason for her daily wine habit.
Lindsay’s subconscious mind took her back to four scenes from her past, all of which were rooted in her relationship with her abusive, cheating ex-husband when she was 21 years old. He was a heavy drinker who would give Lindsay large glasses of wine to drink with him. During those years, Lindsay felt trapped, betrayed, lost, worthless, and not good enough. The unhealthy relationship left emotional scars, which were buried deep within her subconscious.
The scenes we uncovered revealed limiting beliefs that had been imprinted on Lindsay’s subconscious mind: “I am worthless,” “I am not good enough,” and “I am powerless.” Though Lindsay had moved on from that relationship quickly and consciously didn’t think about it often, the unresolved emotions and patterns remained.
The Positive Intention Behind the Habit
Through hypnosis, we discovered that Lindsay’s wine habit had been serving a positive intention all along. The subconscious part of her mind responsible for this habit was trying to help her cope with hard days—linking the ritual of drinking wine to moments when she felt unhappy and powerless with her ex.
The habit had become a way of comforting herself and making difficult days feel more manageable. Once this connection was made, Lindsay understood that her drinking pattern was rooted in her past but was no longer needed in her present life.
Breaking Free and Installing New Beliefs
From a place of review, Lindsay looked back at those past events through the eyes of who she is today—happy, loved, strong, and in a fulfilling marriage. She realized that she was no longer in that toxic relationship and that the habit of drinking wine had been tied to a life she had left behind.
Lindsay’s awareness of this connection broke the chain, and she consciously acknowledged: “I am not that person anymore. I am free, I am happy, I am loved, I am enough, I am worthy, and I am powerful.”
During the session, we reset her mind and installed positive suggestions into her subconscious, forming new, empowering beliefs. Lindsay could now choose to drink sparkling water in the evening instead and embrace a healthier, sober lifestyle.
A New Beginning
With the habit broken and a new perspective formed, Lindsay now feels free from the urge to drink each evening. She understands why the habit was there in the first place and knows she is capable of making healthier choices for herself and her family.
Lindsay’s journey demonstrates the power of hypnotherapy in uncovering hidden patterns and transforming them from the root. If you’re struggling with a habit or behavior you can’t seem to break, know that lasting change is possible when you address the subconscious mind.
